I offer a broad spectrum of illustration styles from hyper-realistic 3D to conceptual editorial covers and painterly anatomical art and also highly technical schematics, and infographic-style diagrams.
Can you work with our internal design, marketing, or regulatory compliance teams?
All day. Every day. I often act as the specialized medical art department within larger creative teams, aligning with your brand guidelines and legal/regulatory review boards.
Can you illustrate rare pathologies or proprietary medical devices that have no existing visual reference?
That is the inherent talent of medical illustrators. Convey the new and unseen without saying a word. I work regularly with startups, medical device companies, pharmaceutical companies, and surgical teams to visualize unpublished procedures, prototype devices, and complex molecular mechanisms of action.
Are you willing to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) before viewing our confidential/proprietary information?
Yes, I routinely execute mutual NDAs prior to discussing proprietary information.
How does the custom illustration process work?
I start with an initial consultation to review your goals, reference materials, and target audience. From here, it becomes assignment dependent. Some assignments call for rough sketches or semi-developed layouts. Others are more suited to animatics. After a review, it can be time to move to more fully developed rendering, color, and final delivery.
How many revision rounds are included in a project?
Projects typically include 2 to 3 revision rounds at key milestones (sketch phase, render phase, and final file review) to ensure clinical accuracy and visual alignment. However, this is predominantly a guideline to keep a project on track. Ultimately, we have to work together to achieve a result we are both satisfied with.
How is pricing calculated for a medical illustration?
Pricing is assignment based and depends on subject complexity, rendering style, timeline, and the specific usage licensing required.
Can you work within a pre-budgeted grant or fixed research allowance?
Yes, I routinely structure project scopes and deliverables to align with specific academic grants, NIH funding limits, or institutional budgets.
Do you offer volume discounts or retainer agreements for ongoing publication needs?
Yes, for clients requiring a steady stream of artwork, I offer retainer pricing and volume discounts. Assignments built from re-usable client assets created by me may also be subject to a discount.
Are there extra fees for fast turnarounds or emergency tight deadlines?
There can be, but it is not always necessary. Rush fees typically apply for projects requiring turnaround times under standard lead times or over weekends/holidays.
What happens if the scope of the project changes mid-way through production?
If new requirements or major structural revisions arise outside the initial brief, I provide a formal scope change estimate before proceeding with additional billable work.
What are your payment terms and milestone structures?
Standard projects typically require a 50% deposit upon contract signing, with the remaining 50% due upon final file delivery. Customized milestone billing is available for multi-phase or long-term retainer projects. Long-term clients receive more customized favorable terms.
Who owns the copyright to the final artwork?
By standard industry practice, the artist retains copyright, while the client receives a license tailored to their specific needs (e.g., North American print publishing, global digital media, or courtroom display). Full copyright buyout options are available upon request.
Can I re-use or re-purpose the illustration in future presentations or marketing materials?
Re-use depends on your initial licensing agreement. Standard licenses cover specific media, but broad multi-channel licenses or license extensions for future campaigns can easily be added to your contract.
